North is to the top.
The Eagle emission nebula, also known as M16 or NGC 6611, lies about 6500 light years away, spans about 20 light-years, and is visible with binoculars toward the constellation of Serpens. 

This false color image was acquired with SII, Ha and OIII filters mapped to the RGB channels respectively. So in this image Red indicates the presence Sulfur, Green Hydrogen and Blue for Oxygen.
